What does a government owe its people
What is the purpose of the government?
Is it to keep the people safe?
If so, it might make sense why one would spend so much money on military and defense.
Is it to educate and nurture them? To cover their needs?
If so, one might expect that taxes would be spent on education, healthcare, food, and sustenance.
You can learn a lot about what a government values by what it spends money on.
There are those who would argue that the government owes its people nothing, and the people owe the same to their government. Generally speaking, I think these people are fools.
